Miley Cyrus Takes Over SNL In Lead Up to Bangerz Release

October 2024 · 1 minute read

Miley Cyrus did double duty on Saturday Night Live, both performing and hosting the second show of the season. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. The former Disney star is set to release her new LP Bangerz on Tuesday (Oct. 8), and has been ransacking headlines ever since her raunchy performance at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

While Cyrus performed tracks off Bangerz like “Wrecking Ball” and “We Can’t Stop,” her shining moments on SNL came during segments “We Did Stop” and the show’s opening, where Cyrus’ VMA performance was blamed for the destruction of America. The previously recorded “We Did Stop” clip, spoofed Republicans enjoying the current government shutdown to the tune of Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” music video. Cyrus put a hilarious R-rated twist on conservative congresswoman Michele Bachmann. In the end, as Cyrus said in her SNL cold open, the show was “less about the singing.”
