Usher’s ex-wife Tameka Foster wants to clear her name once and for all.
The mother of four, who was married to Usher from 2007 to 2009, received a lot of hate from fans at the time she began dating the R&B singer after claims that the latter’s mother, Jonetta Patton, did not like the couple together.
In fact, Patton was so upset about her son’s decision to get with Foster that she refused to attend the pair’s wedding, ultimately causing a rift between them.
In her newly released memoir, Here I Stand, Foster reveals that despite what people may have thought of her, the relationship with Usher was the real deal.
She asserts that her intentions on getting with Usher were not related to his fame or fortune but simply because she genuinely loved The Voice mentor.
“The truth is, I really, really loved my husband,” she told Page Six while promoting her book. “It wasn’t bulls–t. It wasn’t gold-digging. I always said that I took a pay cut when I married him.”
She went on to tell the publication that while a lot of people may have been under the impression she left the marriage with plenty of money (given she was married to a multi-millionaire), she claims to have received “not very much money at all… less than a million dollars.”
“It’s been a struggle,” she added.
Foster said that after the couple’s split, she was left feeling “hurt” and “lonely,” but things didn’t end there because Usher would later be awarded primary custody of their two kids — prompting him to later petition for sole custody.
The former stylist experienced further tragedy when her third son, Kile, who was just 11 years old, died after being hit in a jet ski accident.
“He enters my thoughts and my dreams at the most random times,” she shared. “But it has given me determination to keep his legacy alive. I just keep working to keep his honor and to keep his legacy alive.”
