In swimming, he was named to the All-Piedmont District First Team four times and was a two-time All-State and four-time All-Piedmont District honoree. Meanwhile, he was also a baseball player who twice served as captain of both his swimming and baseball teams. Throughout his high school athletic career, he was named to the All-Piedmont Academic Team in baseball and swimming four times. He eventually switched to baseball and was named the 5A state and North region player of the year in 2017.
Raise to Fame
In 2016 and 2017, he was named Piedmont District Player of the Year and Conference 16 Player of the Year. He was named Gatorade Virginia Player of the Year and PBR Player of the Year in the same year, and he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 2017 MLB draft. In 2018, he elected to play for the Virginia Cavaliers, and Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball named him a Newspaper Freshman All-American. He was also chosen to the ACC All-Freshman Team for his outstanding performance and ACC-leading six saves. He was named to the ACC All-Academic team with five other teammates the next year, and as a sophomore, he struck out 59 batters in 44 innings.
As a pitcher, he was picked for the USA Collegiate National Club and successfully guided the team to new records. In 2020, he was named to the D1 Baseball.com top 50 pitchers in college baseball, and this year, in 2021, he was named to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s Third Team Pre-Season All-American pitcher and Perfect Game’s 2nd Team Pre-Season All-American pitcher. He is presently the team’s senior pitcher.
